The right way to think about Custom Maps in Sandustry is as a training ground, not a stand-in for the campaign ✅ VERIFIED. They let you refine a technique over and over inside a hand-designed seed — diagonal shakers, launcher-tower Shift skip, drought/flood water routing — without risking your main save. What Custom Maps Are For
- Diagonal shakers: a dedicated practice ground for the advanced throughput technique ✅ VERIFIED.

- Drought / flood water routing: resource-scarce desert maps stress-test your water-management ratio ✅ VERIFIED.
- Reprioritize tools per map: on ice-heavy maps raise Flamethrower priority; on hot maps prioritize Vulcanizer-class buildings 🔶 COMMUNITY.
Troubleshooting: Four Common Failures
- Map doesn't show up → check the folder location, the file extension, and whether the loader version matches 🔶 COMMUNITY. Any one of the three wrong and the map won't enter the list.
- Crash on load → mostly an old-physics-version map: the author built it on the old simulation engine, so it crashes on load in the new version 🔶 COMMUNITY. Wait for the author's update or roll back to the matching version.
